Lessons I learnt from the Glass Onion Movie

I am no expert at life or in business but I am an expert in learning from everything and anything. Let me share some of my recent learnings from the Crime-Mystery Movie, Glass Onion.

Miles Bron in one of his “smart talk” moments
Miles Bron in one of his “smart talk” moments
  1. You do not always have to talk smart or come off as smart at every instance. it’s fine to sound dumb or play dumb sometimes. In the movie, Miles Bron desperately paints a picture of an overly smart guy, the smartest guy in the room. He coins up complex words that don’t exist instead of resorting to simple words and terms. He creates (or rather outsources people to create) puzzles and chain reaction mechanics just to awe his boot-licking audience.

2. Money cannot change Truth. I’m not talking about the truth behind who killed Cassandra Brand or who had the original idea that started the Billion Dollar Company (Apparently, money can change those). The Truth I’m referring to here is “Scientific Evidence”.

- The Hydro-Fuel product he was about to launch was a time-bomb. Hydrogen gas is too light not to leak through vents and consequently cause an explosion.

- A Ship cannot dock on a platform that is made of glass or too close to the shore. Yet Miles chose beauty over quality. The Expert sailors called it a beautiful piece of shit.

Duke Cody (Dave Bautista) ever ready with his gun in Glass Onion

3. You can’t be too prepared for life. As a matter of fact, the more you focus on being prepared for any eventuality, the more vulnerable you become because you will definitely miss other avenues that can take you by surprise. Duke Cody (played by Dave Bautista) always moved around with his gun “You never know when shit’s about to go down” he said to Detective Blanc justify why he always had his piece on. But the ever prepared Duke was killed by poison. I guess he didn’t see that coming or maybe he’d have always taken anti-venom shots. You just can’t be too prepared for life’s twists and turns.

4. Have a little wine for your stomach (nerves)

Helen Brand in Glass Onion

In the movie, Helen Brand didn’t take alcohol until she mistakenly takes a “healthy drink” with some alcohol content. At First the detective, Benoit Blanc tried to stop her from further consuming the drink but then he realized that it was probably helping her “kill it” at her goals. In the last scenes Blanc offers Helen a glass of wine and says: “…for Courage”.

This is on a light note though. I mean, you don’t really need wine if you are a natural at inciting courage in yourself. But if you do struggle with courage and bravery, have a “little” wine, it helps.

This is my perspective. In Benoit Blanc’s voice — I can peel back the layers but only you can accept these lessons I have presented and learn from them yourself.
